From pension file:
Enlistment date 16 Sep 1864 at Metamora MI
Discharge date 25 May 1866 at Victoria TX
According to his friend and comrade, Henry Russell, Adam was forced to sleep in water and mud while their unit was in Decatur AL. Adam reported sick the next day. While they were in winter quarters in Huntsville AL, Adam was excused from duty because of illness. When in Nashville later, he reported that his teeth had become loose. In Green Lake TX, he had another bout of rheumatism. He was diagnosed with both rheumatism and scurvy by the military doctors before his discharge in TX.
Regimental records show that Henry Russell was in Decatur AL Oct 31 1864, at Nashville TN 30 Apr 1865, Camp Harker TN 31 May 1865, and 30 Jun 1865 near New Orleans LA.
According to another friend's letter (Peter Bagler AKA Pleny Begler of Thomasville, Lapeer, MI) to the pension board, Adam reported sick at Murfreesboro TN (before Nashville). This friend and neighbor also stated that he had worked one year in the "lumber woods" and that Adam was able to about 1/2 of a man's work.
__________
He is listed in "Michigan Soldiers and Sailors" as:
Hoisengton, Adam. Enlisted in company I, Third Infantry, Sept. 10, 1864, at Pontiac, for 3 years, age 19. Mustered Sept. 7, 1864. Corporal June 15, 1865. Mustered out at Victoria, Tx., May 25, 1866.
Census 1870 (age 26) Oregon Twp., Lapeer, MI
He is listed as Hisington, Adam Lapeer Co., Oregon Twp. (roll 684, p.273, 110/113), living in the household of George Cliff, a shingle manufacturer. Adam is listed as a shingle sawyer, with a real estate value of $2000, which would indicate that he is a partner rather than a worker as no one else in the household and listed as a shingle worker has any real estate value assigned to him or her.

Pension 1 May 1884 (age 40) filed application for pension due to rheumatic heart disease and loss of teeth due to scurvy. Pension application rejected 20 Aug 1884 (age 40)1
A subsequent statement by the doctor said that he had not been able to do any manual work for 10-12 years and that his rheumatic heart caused shortness of breath. These problems were contracted at Nashville TN in 1865 per declaration dated 14 Apr 1888. He was described by the doctor as being 5'8 1/2", 145 lbs. on one document and 5' 6 3/4", 148 lbs with left leg swollen to 1 1/2 of right on another. 1
Adam wrote in September to have the application reconsidered. 1

Pension 16 Mar 1897 (age 53) pension approved for $8 until 1896, $10 thereafter1 Apparently, the pension was retroactive to 1 May 1884 and that a partial disability may have been in effect before then. 1
Description 1907 (age 63) totally disabled for manual work.
He is described by the doctor as being so disabled by his diseases and illnesses as to be "equivalent to the loss of a hand or foot" in regard to manual labor. 1

Pension 1921 (age 77) received pension for mental disability and deafness.1 He apparently was no longer able to sign his pension papers, as they were signed "Adam (X his mark) Hoisington". He was described as 5'8", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair 1

Undertaker was Myron Fauchier. Burial was in Row 11. Mason, IOOF, F on burial record.
