Francis E. Hoisington, 83
Quechee, Vt. - - France E. Hoisington, 83, died at his home in Quechee Monday (Nov 25, 2002).
He was born March 27, 1910, in Springfield, the son of Frank E. and Lillian (Avery) Hoisington, and graduated from Springfield High School in the class of 1937. He worked at the A& P Tea Co. in Springfield for three years, then farmed for a short time in Rochester, Vt., before returning to Sp;ringfield and working at Bryant Grinder. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European theater's Apennine Campaign.
He returned to Bryant Grinder and later owned and operated Union Street Grocery before going to work at Great Eastern. He moved to white River Junction Vt., in 1972 and worked for the state Department of Social Welfare until retiring in 1984. Mr. Hoisington was a member of the Quechee Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Ludlow. He was predeceased by his son, Francis E. Hoisington Jr., in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Iola (Rawson) Hoisington, of Quechee; a daughter, Dawn cullen, of Holbrook, Mass.; a stepson, Lawrence Fuller of Okinowa, Japan; two stepdaughters, Margaret Neily of Windsor and Cynthia Saade of Hesperia, Calif.; a brother, Calvin E. Hoisington of Suncook, N.H.; two sisters, Muriel Berg and Rachael Jensen, both of Perkinsville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hoisington's memory to the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Handicapped, 37 Elmwood Ave., Burlington, Vt., 05401-4390.
