Marriage 1866
Emaline was a widow, with the married name of Morgan. Her marriage to George was attested to by Nelson Yeomans, brother of Eliza "Lida" Yeomans, who assisted her in getting a "bill" (of divorcement) from George. The divorce was granted on the basis of desertion by George.
Occupation bet 1866-1879 (age 35)
Head sawyer at DeGolia & Whitney; Hudson, Lenawee, MI 1. Was laid off because his deafness was a safety issue. He was living at that time with his half-sister Julia and her husband B.F. Pettit.
Engineer and machinist (mechanic) for T.S. Edwards & Co.; Carlton, Barry, MI 1
Marriage bef 1870
It is believed that this was not an "official" marriage. None of her relatives either asked or were told about a wedding. Her husband, James Scoby, said that Lida said that it was not, but that she did not know until he left her. An examination of the records of Monroe County by the Special Examiner for the Pensions Dept. did not find either a marriage certificate or a divorce for George and Lida. This may be the Lida that Emma named in her deposition to the Special Examiner on her application for a widow's pension. Emma stated that George told her he had lived with a woman named Lida, but that they were not married and that they had no children.
In another deposition, Nelson Yeomans, states that his sister, Eliza "Lida" Yeomans, went away with George Hoisington and he supposed that they married. He believed that they had 2 children, that they separated and that she later lived with another man. Nelson also stated that his sister died in the southern part of the state (MI), but he did not know where or under what name. He also stated that George had been married to a widow Morgan before, that they had no children together although Mrs. Morgan had children by her previous marriage.
