Listed in OH 1850 Census as 24 year old laborer. Besides Laura, Thomas J. and Frances E., the following children were living in the house: William T. Butts (9 yrs) and Amanda Lake (6 yrs).

Per Lou's notes: "Lewis fought against the south during the Civil War and was captured, but was released in a few hours because he was so young and didn't know any important information." (He was 35 at the time of the Civil War).

Came to Kansas in 1873.

Was said to have twenty children. However, a second marriage and children were not listed by HH.

Member of the Free Baptist Church at Anson KS, where his funeral was officiated by Rev. N. K. Simpson. In his obit are listed the "names of his chidren who survive him: Mrs. O.D. Edwards [Lydia Susan] and T.J. Hoisington of Anson, Mrs. Mary Vian of El Reno, O.T., S.W. Hoisington, Mrs. Sara Swartzel and Mrs. Rene Spohn of Caldwell, KS; W.H. Hoisington of Billings, OK, J.M. Hoisington, Ames, OK, E.E. Hoisington, Kingfisher, OK; Pearl Hoisington, Shattack, OK; and E.J. Hoisington, Harper, KS.
