Unless otherwise noted, data is from "Hoisingtons in America" by Harry Hoisington privately published 1935 and on file at NEHGS, Boston.22
From Harry Hoisington's Supplement to his book, 1939. Lois Hoisington is entry #132 and is as follows:
"LOIS (LOUISA) HOISINGTON ANDREWS LONG, born 1827 in Athens Co., Ohio, died 1897 in Tama Co., Iowa. Daughter of Barzava (#36) and Mahala Slater Hoisington. Following a very early and short lived romance in which her name is coupled with one Russell Wyatt this lady brought up a boy who may have been a nephew (see 36E and 36F) and whom she raised under the name of Hoisington.""A. Ferdinand Russell Hoisington, born 1847, married Susan McCollough. See # 317.Lois married in 1856 Samuel Andrews.
B. Wiley Andrews died 4 years old.C. James Sylvester Andrews, born 1856.
Lois married again in 1866 at Eaton, Indiana, to which place she had gone with the family of Chas. Carter--- [married] James Long. Children of Lois and James:
D. Martha Mariah (Mattie) born 1867, married 1893 Chauncey Lorenzo Haskins.E. John M. Long.
Lois in 1883 lived in Henry County, Iowa with the family of Geo. Black.
[Information from] #602, [Earl Morris Hoisington] Grand Junction, Colorado, Feb. 1, 1937, from old notes by #472 [Andrew Jackson Hoisington].
"The "36E" and "36F" referred to above are two brothers of Lois, sons of Barzava, for whom Harry Hoisington gives no further information, no marriage info. or children info. The other three brothers of Lois (Samuel, Jesse, and Lewis) all married and have children accounted for and Ferdinand is not among them.
It would have been likely in 1847 if a young girl was unmarried and had a son, to conceal this by saying it was her nephew. The fact that Ferdinand's middle name was Russell, and her boyfriend was Russell Wyatt indicates who Ferdinand's father really was. Of course it cannot be proven unless someone were to look at the birth certificate and find out if the father was listed, or if the father was "unknown". One senses a tragedy in the early life of Lois. Ferdinand's birthdates are alternately given as "1841" (Lois would have been 14); 1843 (she would have been 16) and 1847 (she would have been 20)."193
