On this twentieth day of March 1833 personally appeared before me David Eddy one of the Judges in and for the County of Wayne aforesaid Velina Hoisington Resident of the County of Wayne and State of New York aged 70 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.

That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and Served as herein stated.

That in the year 1776 in the month of February he enlisted in the company of Captain Benjamin Wait in the Town of Woodstock Vermont Regiment commanded by Major Hoisington this applicants father and that he was waiter to his father. This Major Hoisington commanded three companies of volunteer Rangers to Guard the frontiers of Vermont about the Sources of the Connecticut River. This was the corps that the applicant belonged to. He first marched up the Connecticut River to a place called the great Ox, __was employed in building a Stockade fort where he __ and was made the place the head quarters from whence the business was to scout on the Canada line to prevent the depradations of the Indians and ___ staid in this place until the first of January 1777 when all were discharged until further orders Returned to WoodStock aforesaid this campaign was ten months and an half--received no written discharge the 28th of Jany 1777 Major Hoisington the father of this Applicant died and then this applicant was turned into the Ranks and that in the first of May following he was marched to Rutland from thence to Castleton in Vermont and from thence to Mount Independence opposite Ticonderoga here he staid untill Berguoine drove them away we retreated to Hubbardtown we were now attached to Col. Warners Regiment from the time of Major Hoisington death until we carried to Mount Independece Since we were under the Command of the oldest Captain of the Regiment or Battalion whose name was Benjamin Wait from Hubbardtown we were marched to Castleton from thence to Manchester from thence to Paulet from thence to Bennington where he was engaged in that memorable battle was one that charged the Hessions on the Hill who had made themselves a slight Brestwork of Rails-- which was earned with great Slaughter after the battle we followed down to Stillwater did not cross the river untill Berguoin surrendered but was stationed on the east side to prevent him from crossing the River. after the Surrender of Burguoin he was ___ over the River on to the battle ground from thence he was marched to Fort Edward from thence to Fort Ann from thence to White Hall from thence to Diamond Island in lake George near its outlet from _____ to Ticonderoga which was just left by the British troops here we were discharged the first of December after a hard Campaign of eight months had no written discharge. returned to Woodstock and staid untill the first of May1778 where we were marched to Albany State of New York to recieve our clothing here we staid until the month of September following when we were discharged by General Stark had a written discharge signed by the aforesaid General Stark which discharge is lost then he returned home to Woodstock and arrived on the 20th of September 1778 this campain lasted four months and twenty days in the Year 1780 in the first of April he enlisted into Captain Issac Safford's Company of Rangers commanded by Ebenezer Allen Major Comandant of a battalion of Rangers consisting of three companies to guard the frontier. Marched to Pitsford Vermont north of Rutland on OtterCreek. here we built a Picket fort and called if Fort Vengeance. Immediately after this fort was finished Capt Safford's Company to which this applicant belonged was sent to White River on the East Side of the Green Mountain where he was employed in building another fort in the Town of Bethel where he staid until the first of January 1781. When he was discharged had a written discharged signed by Capt. Isaac Saford which discharge is lost. This campaign lasted eight months and that in March 1781 he enlisted for one month as a private under the command of Beriah Green a Lieutenant to block the motions of the Indians on the frontiers. Went to the fort at Bethel and staid out his month and was discharged. had a written discharge which is lost. And that sometime in the lst of April same year he was hired in captain John Benjamin's Company to Guard the lines, this was in consequence of a draft in that part of the State of Vermonth that Each of the farmers should hire a man for nine months to Guard the lines from the depradations of the Indians and tories. This applicant was hired by three farmers . he was stationed at the fort at Bethel aforesaid where he was employed in scouting parties through the whole term of nine months which ended some time in February 1782. When he was discharged. Discharg signed by Captain Benjamin which is lost. He then returned to Woodstock and sometime in the month of Feby 1782 he went to Boston Massachusetts and Entered himself on board the Dean Frigate, a privateer as a marine in a company commanded by Captain Delaware. The ship was Commanded by Captain Samuel _ickeson. Sailed the tenth day of March to the South to intercept the Britsh Vessels bound from and to the West India Islands in this cruise we took seven prizes. The last prize captured was an Eighteen Gun frigate he thinks the Captains name was Thomson took a large number of prisoners does not know how many. Returned to Boston the tenth day of June same year. This trip was three months. This deponant cannot prove all his services because his ____ and fellow soldiers are mostly dead. This deponent was born in the Town of Farmington State of Connecticut in the year 1762. Has no record of his age. Was called into service in the Town of Woodstock County of Windsor State of Vermont from there he removed to Augusta Oneida County State of New York from thence to the Town of Ontario now Town of Walworth formerly County of Ontario now County of Wayne where he was ______. He enlisted or volunteered his services every time he was in Service. He was acquainted with General Stark Col. Warner Col. Hale Col. ____. the return of his service was such that he was ___ _____ the Regular troop except a short time about the Bennington Battle and that time was ____ that if he can ___ any regiment of Regular troops he has forgotten them. The persons who will testify that this Applicant is a man of truth and veracity and their belief that he was a Revolutionary Soldier are Daniel Gould, George Mattheson, Joseph Patterson and Jonathan Boyonton, and he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the Agency of any state.
